Meet Jane, Company Director and Lecturer

For our first blog, we are chatting with Jane, our Company Director, and Lecturer at ATA Beauty- Advanced Training Academy. Jane has worked in the industry and education sectors for over 27 years.

How long has ATA Beauty Academy been open for?

We’ve been open since April 2016 and we’ll be celebrating our 7-year anniversary this April.  I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone and how many wonderful students I’ve met.

What made you decide to start ATA Beauty Academy?

I had been teaching for 20years and had seen how education has changed.  Students were treated as numbers rather than individuals. The job changed and I felt strongly that students were not receiving the same quality or quantity of training. The emphasis was on paperwork rather than the student’s learning. I really wanted to continue what I loved, teaching new skills.  I wanted to be able to provide high quality training concentrating on practical skills in small class sizes to meet the needs of students who have a passion to learn. I feel I’ve been really fortunate to have so many students who have the same passion for the industry as I do.

What has been the highlight since opening ATA Beauty Academy?

There have been so many! Watching students flourish and excel in new skills and confidence is always a highlight for me. I am also very proud when I see so many successful students go on to run their own salons, businesses and even training academies.

Are there any new courses launching in 2023?

We are launching three new and exciting courses this year. We have already released the dates for our VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Providing Therapies for Clients with Cancer or other Life Limiting Conditions, and will release more information and dates for VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Facial Electrotherapy and VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Micro Dermabrasion Treatments very soon.

  • VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Facial Electrotherapy
  • VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Micro Dermabrasion Treatments
  • VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Providing Therapies for Clients with Cancer or other Life Limiting Conditions

What first inspired you to become a beauty lecturer?

I have a real passion to learn new skills and push to do new things. It seemed like a natural progression for me.  The first time I heard myself call a register was very scary, but once I pushed myself to do it, I loved it and have never looked back ❤️.

What motivates you to succeed?

As they say “love the job you do and you will never work a day in your life”.  I truly love my job and consider it a privilege and honour to help people achieve their own dreams. Seeing my students excel is all the motivation I need.

What was your first job in the beauty industry?

I was a spa therapist at Center Parcs, Elveden.

What advice would you give to somebody considering a career in the beauty and holistic industry?

What are you waiting for? It is such a rewarding career, helping people to look and feel their best, and it’s so flexible with so many choices and opportunities. I honestly love my job and if I went back and did it again, I would still do the same. A comment I hear very regularly is “I wish I had done this years ago” so don’t put it off any longer.

Love Jane x
