Teresa Russell Student ATA Beauty Stowmarket

Meet student, Teresa Russell

Teresa Russell Student ATA Beauty Stowmarket

For this month's blog, we chat with Teresa Russell who has completed lots of courses here at ATA Beauty.  Find out how she has found working in this exciting industry.

What courses did you complete at ATA Beauty?

I have completed numerous courses with Jane in the past 6 years. They are mostly massage related as that's what I really love so I took the more holistic route. Some of the courses I have completed are massage,  reflexology, lymphatic drainage, hopi ear candles,  hot stones, deep tissue, MET, body wraps, facials and Indian Head. Once I started training, I got hooked!

What was your favourite course and why?

I have enjoyed all the courses I've done but one of my favorites would have to be reflexology. It was one of the longest courses but one of the best!  My nan was a reflexologist and was a huge part of my life. To follow in her footsteps is a great honour and the benefits of this treatment are amazing.

What advice would you give to anybody who is thinking of training in the industry?

Just go for it, no matter what age you are. You will not regret it. It's such an amazing and rewarding job to have and most days, it doesn't even feel like work. The time and effort you put in, will definitely be rewarded in the end.

What have you been up to since qualifying?

Since qualifying 6 years ago,  I have been able to quit my other job, I've had a cabin built and during lock down had it extended to 2 rooms and a bathroom. I now have two other people working along side of me. Both have done some training at ATA too. I have built up a successful business with a constant steady flow of clients so I'm now able to work but still have time to do the other things I love too.

Do you have a favourite treatment you love to do?

I have too many favorites. I love each and every treatment I do as each brings different outcomes for people. It's just an awesome feeling seeing the difference the treatments can make to someone's life. One of the biggest differences I've seen was in a client who has Parkinsons Disease. She came to me with really bad body tremors and shakes. After doing regular reflexology treatments on her, her shakes completely disappeared. This is why I love my job!

Are there any courses you would like to train in next?

I am booked onto the Aromareflex course this month and also hope to do myofascial release and cupping soon as they are often requested by my clients.

Christina, Tranquillity Therapies

Meet student, Christina from Tranquillity Therapies, Ipswich

,Christina, Tranquillity Therapies

For this month's blog, we chat with our Rising Star winner, Christina who has completed lots of courses here at ATA Beauty.  She is now running her own business, Tranquillity Therapies in Ipswich.

What courses did you complete at ATA Beauty?

I have completed so many courses, at ATA Beauty, it's going to be hard to list them all but let's give it a go... Facials, Manicures, Pedicures, Gel Polish, Lash Lift and Tint, Lash Extensions, Brow Lamination, Waxing, Hopi Ear Candling, Indian Head Massage, Level 3 in Body Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Hot Stone Massage, and Level 3 Reflexology.

Wow that's so many! Which was your favourite treatment to learn and why?

Reflexology, I love how in-depth it was and that every single treatment is different. I love being able to connect with the client and how they are feeling today, and in the past too.

What advice would you give to anybody who is thinking of training in the industry?

It takes time, time to train, time to hone your skills and gain confidence in what you are doing. That aside, it is fantastic!  Every day is different and you get to meet a lot of new people which is always fun. I take pride in providing clients with treatments that I have personally had done myself. I think it is good to know and understand how your client will feel.

What have you been up to since qualifying?

I have gone from providing treatments from a room at home to having my own salon.  I have a fabulous client base that are regulars and the salon location allows for lots of new walk-in customers too. I'm always looking for new courses and add-ons to build on my skills too.

Sounds like you are doing amazingly well! What is your most popular treatment, and o you have a favourite treatment you love to do?

Now, trying to pick a single treatment is really hard. I think it changes each week as it'll quite often be whatever I do more of that week. My most popular treatment tends to change often.  I have done a lot of LVL lash lift and tints, also brow waxing, tinting and gel manicures recently.

What trends do you think we will see in the beauty industry in 2023?

I think we are going to continue to see the glazed doughnut look for nails, especially with the continued introduction by polish manufacturers of glazed polish making the look easier to achieve.  I am trained in Ultrasonic micro therapy facials and I am seeing the demand for these starting to increase too, I think this could in part be due to similar hand held devices going viral on social media platforms in the last year.

What are your future plans with Tranquillity Therapies?

To continue to grow the business and keep up to date with new trends and treatments that I believe will fit in with the ethos and beliefs of my business.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to share your story with us, and now we know what you have been up to since studying at ATA Beauty. Wishing you continued success :-)

Julia Haritonova

Meet student, Julia Haritonova

Julia Haritonova, Founder, Specialising in Remedial, Holistic Treatments, and Yoga

For this month's blog, we catch up with Julia Haritonova. Julia has completed multiple courses here at ATA Beauty and is now running her own business, Lana’s Holistic Centre.

What courses did you complete at ATA Beauty?
I have completed Level 3 Swedish Massage, Level 3 Sports Massage, Indian Head Massage, Hot Stone Massage, Deep Tissue Massage and Lymphatic Drainage Massage.

What was your favourite course and why?
My favourite course was Level 3 Sports Massage. This course really changed my point of view of the whole massage industry. This course motivated me to increase my knowledge in human anatomy and physiology. Afterwards I have completed a Health and Well-being degree at University of Suffolk during the pandemic of Covid-19. My life changed after this course and only progressing every day, applying alternative medicine not just to my clients but most importantly, myself and my family.

What advice would you give to anybody who is thinking of training in the industry?
Get your knowledge of human anatomy and physiology first. I believe, anyone who provides any complementary or remedial treatments must have a good understanding of the human body. A one day course is a big no-no for me unless you are competent, knowledgeable and passionate about what you do.

What have you been up to since qualifying?
Since qualifying I began working as a mobile massage therapist within the Suffolk area. However, in lockdown I used my time wisely and studied from home to increase my knowledge for future. In March 2022, I established my very own massage clinic in Ipswich on St Peter’s Street. Now I am a business woman passionate about alternative medicine, human well-being and yoga.

Do you have a favourite treatment that you love to do?
I absolutely love hot stone massage. I tend to mix it with a deep tissue massage which helps to aid relaxation as well as tension relief in deeper muscles.

What was it that made you want to join the industry?
One of my family members had an issue with her shoulder, my husband’s elderly grandmother. I offered her a massage to the area of concern. Afterwards, I was been advised by my family member that I could be good at doing massages. Ever since, I love every day at my clinic treating my clients. This is my passion, this is my everything.

Where do you see yourself in your career in 5 years’ time?
In 5 years' time, I see myself…. Sorry, I don't like to share my plans. Let’s keep it a secret. Less words, more actions. And behind these actions, there is an investment of hard work.

Do you have a favourite memory of your career so far that stands out?
My favourite memory of my career is the development of Lana’s Holistic Centre. Thank you to my lovely husband for this project's development. I could not do it without him and the knowledge I gained at Advanced Training Academy.
